real sorry havent been getting to replying, but works a mess as the terms draws to an end (: nus's like 2 weeks away from end of term, so till then will be a crazy project crash!
really really glad to be in year 2! haha its like just the right amount to look forward too, without having too much excitement behind and work/further studies still far far away! as opposed to e girls haha who'd be like gradding in a coupla months (:
currently still not first class yet, a few pts shy, so still a certain pressure erps :( really hope to get it up and beyond safely soon so i can start taking the weird weird classes, like biosemiotics or political science modules or french etc, and not worry abt grades yay!
this sem has been really crazily packed too, with a lot of focus on research and independent study. i took a facebook app writing module, and am now in the midst of rushing out the final project application; it's a set of brain training games like brainage which we are betting the house that it'll go viral :( also, as part of the nus-usp programme requirement, i'm also required to do two independent study modules, which i applied under the facebook module and thus will also be doing a report and presentation on porting considerations of facebook apps to google opensocial!
on other fronts, am doing an AI related project on currency market movements, where i had hoped to use algorithms to catch trends, aka technical analysis. currently focusing on the use of support vector machines and bayesian networks, with price movements on various timescales as the feature space; as well as the more traditional indicators that signals momentum like MACD. wanted to put the algo into the "Interactive Brokers Collegiate Trading Olympiad" but really no time no time to get it out on time, perhaps i'll try again next yr! :)
under the undergrad research opps programme, im doing a project on computer vision, where my supervisor and the students would be figuring out an efficient way of converting series of photographs into 3d models semi-automatically. currently still figuring out the coding and perspective vision, but hopefully something good will come out of it at the end of the year!
hall-wise, i took up the role as the computer committee head this year, where we upgraded most of the paperwork for resident points and participation into an online system, and attempted to integrate the web experience more deeply into the overall hall exp. thru the use of photos, forums, groups, and chat rooms; we'll be trying to turn it into a social networking portal for all hall-lites this holiday haha, esp. for the alumni! also helped out in other minor roles in hall, such as helping out with the open house planning and promotion, doing the stage manager job during the annual cultural groups hall performance, and running for the interhall games!~
the only good thing with so many projects is that i've only two modules that are examinable hoho, and they're all introductory statistics (one more mathsy and formulaic, one under usp which is more artsy and intepretative), so hopefully the mugging will be like synergistic!
wanted to go tibet too this holiday with the family, but the riots and all made it impossible sigh! and very unfortunately dsta will be recalling me back to work so thats the rest of my holiday gone! :((
